Fuse 2.15.0 release notes (launched 22/04/2024)

Fuse

All tools have been tested and updated to work with Adobe CC 2024 and Mac OS Sonoma.

FileMaster

A new function has been added: Remove Arc master suffix. In some exports from Arc downloaded files have the suffix _master, this function will remove that from all the files in the chosen folder.
New functions have been added to check and process book folders for upload to Arc.
The Add Licensing prefix option now correctly only adds the prefix to image files and not folders.
The Split InD files into spreads option now removes page numbers from the original file name so there are no duplicate page numbers in the split files.

Co-Ed Guide

Exceptions will now be included in the comments field.

SourceReport, SourceReport Illustrator

The Link ID checks will now check for updated DK MET and Spanish FSC logos.

MakeReady

Fixed an issue with alignment when adding CMYK PDFs on single-page files.

PrimeFix

Removed the initial menu so the tool now goes straight to selecting files and fixes.

Fuse 2.14.1 release notes (launched 17/10/2023)

SourceReport

The Files are Permitted type check was failing most documents due to a Drive cache change, this has been resolved.
The Minimum ink weight check and Inspector were failing documents with raster images, this has also been resolved.

SourceReport Exceptions

The tool was not working on files on Drive, it should now work on files regardless of the location.

Fuse 2.14.0 release notes (launched 25/09/2023)

General updates

All tools dealing with font licensing have been updated to allow closer tracking of Monotype updates meaning font information should be more up-to-date and reporting more accurate.
Feedback on fonts has also become more detailed. Font Foundry has been renamed as Font Origin and now gives specific feedback if a font is missing and therefore can’t be checked, if it clashes with another font (this can be very problematic), if it’s an Adobe application font, Adobe cloud font or Apple system font (all of which are not licensed for use).
SourceReport, SourceReport Illustrator, CoEd Guide and Exceptions will now open and manage reports using Google Chrome instead of Safari. This should make for a smoother and faster experience.
All tools will now find and process files with uppercase extensions.
Most tools have been updated to handle hidden files and folders better. They will mostly ignore them but will process some as Google Drive shortcuts are managed using hidden folders.
SourceReport and SourceReport Illustrator will pass Link ID and Document ID checks for Phonic Book custom images. The SourceReport Inspector has been updated to match. ImageReport and FileMaster will ignore these files when reporting or renaming images.
All tools working with the text layer have been updated to include new layer name LATAM.
Tools will no longer crash or run slowly if there are large image files without an extension in any folders.
They will also process Illustrator files quicker by using metadata.

SourceReport

Checks have been updated to comply with Apple file management and Google Drive cache changes.
Paragraph style language and Character style language checks have been added to all Frontlist categories. This is due to issues experienced with quotation marks when no language is set.
Fixed an issue with No Unused Links not finding issues on projects accessed via shortcuts in Google Drive.
Font checks have been added to all Backlist and Translation categories.
A new check and corresponding Inspector have been added for Minimum Ink Weight. This is for Uncoated titles only.
The tool will work correctly on legacy InDesign documents again.
The UI will display an advisory note if it is waiting for InDesign to start up as this can cause the script to seem stalled. If you see this please click the InDesign app in your dock until it becomes active.
The Run on active document option will only be available when a document is open in InDesign to avoid incorrect use leading to errors.
A new Phonic Books translation category has been added.
No section prefix and Single section checks have been removed from Phonic Books categories.
Link ID and Trim size consistent checks have been added to Phonic Books categories.
No text on CMYK layer was not finding text paths on text frames. Both check and Inspector will find them now.
New EFE 3 Layer categories have been added.

FontChanger

This tool has been moved out of the Beta testing menu into the main Fuse tools menu.
Fixed an issue replacing fonts used only in Character Styles.
Can now also load fonts from InDesign template files.
Tidied up the UI wording and layout to try to make the tool easier to use.
Added a progress bar so progress is visible.

Exporter

A new option has been added to Ignore modified images. When this is ticked the tool will automatically update any modified links before creating PDFs. This has been added to deal with links appearing as modified due to Google Drive cloud synching but it will update all links so should be used with that in mind.
The checks for missing and modified links will now only fail if there are missing or modified links on the layer(s) being output. This will support workflows where CMYK links are not available for example.
If the Coated or Uncoated PDF/X-4 profiles are selected the CMYK layer will automatically be selected in the UI.

WordCount

Has a new option to Count colour words only. This option will count any words that are not black/grey/white regardless of the layer they are on. It was added to allow counting of added or modified words that are temporarily in a different colour for tracking.

FileMaster

Now has a new function to separate InDesign files into CMYK and text layers. This can be used for buy-ins and converted Quark files.
And another new function to split InDesign files into separate spreads. It will name the spreads using the page numbers and a generic suffix you can enter in the UI. There will be some tidy-up needed afterwards, mostly if there are text boxes that flow across spreads.
Also has new functions to add prefixes or suffixes to filenames. So if you need to add a language prefix or book name suffix to files.
And one more new function to expand and combine multiple zip files that have been downloaded from Google Drive.
Most functions to change/fix filenames now have an option to specify a file type. So you can choose to only rename InDesign files for example.
The MA team now have access to a function to relink images that have had an Agency prefix added. This is only to be used in emergency situations as the proper Agency workflow should be followed.
A bug has been fixed in the Remove illegal characters function that caused it to fail for some files.
The Remove illegal characters function now handles multiple consecutive illegal characters .

SourceReport Illustrator

A new check has been added for Document colour mode to ensure all documents use CMYK colour mode.
The No low res links check was failing for all images on locked layers. It will now pass/fail correctly for these images.
The No low res links check was also failing for all images with a clipping path. It will also now pass/fail correctly for these images.
The Bounding box layer setup check now ensures the bounding box is the same size as the artwork.
The Run on active document option will only be available when a document is open in Illustrator to avoid incorrect use leading to errors.
Three layers exactly, Layer order and No hidden layers have all been updated to allow an optional layer named ‘For_Preview_only’ which will be hidden for WIP but shown for archiving. This is for white images so they show up in previews.
The No overset text check was failing for text frames with an empty paragraph at the end. This has been fixed now.
The Embedded link ID check flags up when an embedded link cannot be checked. This will require a manual check to confirm the image is properly licensed.
DK logos are now exempt from the Artboard size check.
The Artboard size check was not working correctly for documents with an area of 10,000 pixels. This has been fixed now.

PrimeFix

The File Naming and Folder Naming fixes have been updated. File Naming will now fix the page numbers in the filename and any illegal characters and both fixes work with Google Drive now. If the filename is corrected it will automatically update the folder name to match.
Has been streamlined so will run faster with a cleaner and more logical workflow.
Will now only save InDesign files if they have changed which will save time synching Drive files.
The No Modified Links fix has been updated to run faster.
Removed option to run all fixes.

Labeller

The tool will no longer fail when a file has missing Illustrator link.
It will always now include labels for all embedded Illustrator links, not just ones with Agency prefixes or MA IDs.
It will now process Illustrator files with embedded links much quicker.
It will always make sure label text boxes have one column only so they do not appear blank with overset text.

PrimeMover

Updated folder structure for archiving into Arc system.

Optima

The relinking code has been fixed to work on Monterey and later OS versions.
The option to add a suffix to optimised images has been fixed.

ImageReport

Has a new option to generate Licensing and Rights Summary reports at the same time.
Improved code and removed pop-ups relating to updating reference files used to track legacy and restricted images.
The Rights Summary Work Ref text box now lets you copy and paste into it.
The Licensing report now has an extra column showing the MA ID. This is to help with Digital Licensing requests.
The final dialog will come to the front to ensure the user sees it when the tool is finished.

MakeReady

Fixed an issue with alignment when adding CMYK PDFs on rotated spreads.

BoxerPro

Does not change the visibility of any layers, so hidden layers remain hidden.
Replaces existing bounding box layer if it exists instead of creating a second one.
Works on files with non-standard layers and does not delete layers it deems non-standard for DK.
Has been streamlined to make it faster.

Boxer

Fixed an error related to replacing existing bounding box layers in some instances.

ArchivePreview

Fixed an error related to the renaming of the Position Guide preset.

Co-Ed Guide

Guide no longer appears blank when certain ‘reserved’ characters are used.
The tool was failing for some users on Ventura when their username has been set up inconsistently, it will now work regardless of this.

Resaver

Now has options for FOGRA51 and FOGRA52. Note these are only used by DK-V at the moment and should not be used for UK titles.

DeploySettings

Will remove the old Position Guide preset if it still exists.
Will switch off the preference to Auto-activate Adobe Fonts. These fonts are not fully licensed for our needs and should never be used.

TravelTag

This tool has been removed from Fuse. The functionality is available using PrimeFix, using the File Naming Fix option.

Has been updated to target InDesign CC2022 in advance of our update.

DeploySettings

Has been updated to include PDF/X-4 profiles and remove old profiles. If you have any questions regarding this email Tom Morse.
The Position Guide PDF preset has been renamed as PRH_PDF_PositionGuides_and_MarkUps. Documentation on dkhandbook has been updated to reflect this.

Labeller

No longer fails with an error when metadata is missing from linked Illustrator files.

SourceReport

The Exact font location check will now pass for people using the Monotype Desktop App (including outsourcers).
A new category has been added for Phonic Books.
The DK file pagination check has been updated to keep in line with all valid language prefixes.
The tool will no longer fail when invalid characters are entered in the report name field in the UI.

Exporter

No longer fails when trying to add a watermark to InDesign docs with rotated spreads and adds watermark in correct position on them.

Various tools

SourceReport and SourceReport Illustrator will pass Link ID and Document ID checks for Learning, Phonic and Super Reader logos and QR codes. The SourceReport Inspector has been updated to match. ImageReport and FileMaster will ignore these files when reporting or renaming images.
SourceReport and FontChecker have been updated with the latest fonts from Monotype.
SourceReport, FontChecker and ImageReport will now correctly categorise all DK Copyright fonts.

PrimeFix

The Empty Text Frames fix will no longer delete items with text paths.

FontChanger

This tool has been completely overhauled to deal with various workflow issues and to make the tool more robust. The tool is designed to swap fonts in a batch of InDesign documents with other fonts that are active on a user’s mac. It is currently available in the Beta testing menu in Fuse. While we believe the tool is safe to use, as it is a beta tool we recommend you run on a copy of the files for now. If you have any questions or issues with the tool please email fuse@uk.dk.com.

ImageReport

Will now correctly process InDesign docs with rotated spreads without any errors.
The Licensing report will now include the image’s position on the page.
The Digital Licensing option is now called Rights Summary (and report names have been updated accordingly).
The Rights Summary report now contains font licensing info for various product types and report headings.
Allows more time for the user to select the final menu choice so they do not receive timeout errors.
The reference files for legacy MA IDs and restricted images are now both stored on a remote server and the tool checks them so they can be easily updated outside of Fuse releases.
No longer uses TextEdit to create report file to avoid potential app issues.

MakeReady

The CMYK PDFs will now be placed with the bleed showing.
The messaging in the UI has been made clearer to show if you need to select InDesign files or PDFs to avoid confusion.

ComboHarvester

Checks the number of PDFs in the CMYK and Text folders and gives specific feedback if they don’t match.

Co-Ed Guide

Ensures Book Code is numerical regardless of cell format in Excel doc.

FileMaster

Asset Management function permissions have been updated with starters and leavers.

Fuse 2.12.2 release notes (launched 15/06/2022)

SourceReport

The Run WordCount option has been removed. The WordCount tool is more up-to-date and should be used instead.
The Link ID check will now pass the new 2020 FSC logos and fail the old ones.
The Translation objects blend mode check will now fail when an object does not have a blend mode applied but does have the Isolate Blending option ticked as this will cause an issue on print and cannot be picked up by the preflight.
The Translation text is black check will now pass if the stroke is not black but is set to 0pt (and so is not visible).

SourceReport Illustrator

The Artboard size check has been updated to check based on document size.
No items outside artboard will now only fail if an item is completely outside the artboard.
The Only CMYK swatches check has been replaced by No spot colours as it is fine to use RGB colours in Illustrator documents.
The Document ID and Embedded link ID checks will now pass the new 2020 FSC logos and fail the old ones.
No overset text was incorrectly failing items with forced line breaks or multiple paragraphs, this has now been fixed.
No text on CMYK layer now allows numbers for section numbering, maps etc.
All checks relating to colour will now check and use gradient colours correctly.
The Link ID check has been renamed as Embedded link ID to avoid confusion with the SourceReport check with the same name.

Labeller

Now adds labels for images embedded in linked Illustrator files.

MakeReady

The tool will not change kerning or ligature options by default, except when the German language option is chosen as that has existing defaults which are still valid.
Sometimes when CMYK PDFs were added it pushed text out of text boxes, this issue has now been fixed.

PrimeFix

Links inside spread folder, No missing links and Link names characters fixes have all been fixed to work on Big Sur and later OS versions.
Link names characters fix has also been updated to be much faster and correctly handle duplicate links.

PrimeMerge

The tool has been streamlined and will also now run in the background meaning it’s quicker and you can work in other apps apart from InDesign while it’s running.
The relinking and document management code has been fixed to work on Big Sur and later OS versions.
The tool will no longer close any open InDesign documents before running, it will leave them as they are.
When trying to match InDesign documents with link folders the tool will now allow for all standard DK language prefixes.

SourceReport Inspectors

The Translation objects blend mode Inspector will now pick up objects that do not have a blend mode applied but do have the Isolate Blending option ticked.
The Translation objects blend mode Inspector will now check all objects for content blend mode.
The Translation objects blend mode Inspector will no longer display a warning if you have multiple documents open and will just check the active document.
The Link ID Inspector will now pass the new 2020 FSC logos and fail the old ones.

DeploySettings

Has been updated for the latest version of Adobe Acrobat.
DK and PRH preflights have been updated and PDF/x-4 profiles have been added.

Various tools

All tools working with the text layer have been updated to include new layer names WEL (Welsh) and GLA (Gaelic).

Occasionally returned incorrect counts when the tool had crashed, this has been resolved now.

SourceReport and FontChecker

Have been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

OnlyImages

This tools has been removed as it was no longer in regular use.

PrimeMover

Now works and correctly relinks files on Big Sur and later OS versions.
Now runs in the background so is quicker and allows the user to continue working in other apps apart from InDesign.

ArchivePreview

Now works on Big Sur and later OS versions.

Boxer

Replaces an existing bounding box layer instead of adding a second one (which would fail SourceReport).
Colour profile pop-ups will no longer appear as each document is opened meaning the tool is much quicker and does not need user intervention.
Hidden sublayers will now remain hidden instead of becoming visible as the script runs.
The final pop-up has been tidied up and now comes to the front.

Have been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

Fuse 2.12.0 release notes (launched 11/08/2021)

Fuse

Now works on more recent versions of Big Sur which had tighter security controls. This involved updating all our development tools, frameworks, and regenerating every tool in Fuse as a universal app (meaning it will run natively on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs).

DeploySettings

Was failing to configure Photoshop and Illustrator on Big Sur, this has been resolved now.

WordCount

Was failing to count words in Illustrator documents on Google Drive, this has been resolved now.

Was failing to place the images back into InDesign on Big Sur, this has been resolved now.

Has been made more efficient and will not crash as often.

Fuse 2.11.0 release notes (launched 07/06/2021)

Fuse

Has been updated to work with Adobe CC 2021 and OS Big Sur in advance of our updates to these systems.

Set up with PRH settings

Has been updated to target the CC 2021 apps in advance of our upgrade.
Has also been simplified so there is no longer any need for quitting and restarting apps which means the tool should be quicker and less disruptive.
Two new colour profiles have been added.

Resaver

Has been updated to target InDesign CC 2021 in advance of our update.

SourceReport

The Linked Illustrator links embedded check has been removed. This means the tool no longer requires Illustrator and will be quicker and less disruptive to run.
The tool now has resaver functionality built in so it can be run on older InDesign documents and will resave them in the current version as it runs.
Checks to ensure Transparency Blend Space is always set to CMYK.
Error dialog will come to the front automatically instead of the user having to click on the app and no longer has confusing Cancel button.
The No excessive res bitmap images check was in the wrong order in the Non-CoEd Frontlist Uncoated category, this has been fixed now.
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

Optima

Now has a Digital option which will export and optimise images based on our standard digital workflows and in compliance with device requirements.

FontChecker

Messaging has been updated to clarify licensing for use by DK staff working on personal devices at home.

LayerFix

Can now be run on older InDesign documents and will resave them in the latest version as it processes them.

Combo

No longer uses Acrobat to get page size which makes the tool quicker and less disruptive.
Can now run on Big Sur without errors.

No longer uses Acrobat to get page size which makes the tool much quicker and less disruptive.

Labeller

Now allows more time to process large/complex Photoshop files.

SourceReport Illustrator

Updates to the tool prior to its official launch.

Exporter

The JPEG option for Jackets will now produce front and back cover JPEGs with and without a keyline border.
The watermark has been updated to contain the copyright symbol and explicitly states the content is DK owned.
Some ruler settings would cause the keyline border to only go one page of each spread, it will now work correctly regardless of ruler settings.

Optima

This tool has been moved out of the Beta testing menu and into the main All Fuse Tools menu as it is now fully approved and supports various live workflows.

SourceReport

The check for Bitmap images with excessive resolution has been added to the Frontlist categories as images of this type have been causing problems for printers and for archiving.
The Link ID check will now pass Top 10 logos, the new DK MET logos and How To Use PDFs with any language suffix.
Illustrator PDFs are now allowed only for barcodes as this is currently the only viable option from the MBC4 Barcode Creator tool.
The InDesign Preferences check will no longer check the Smart Text Reflow setting.
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

FileMaster

Added a new function to copy just the InDesign files from a book on Drive or server to your desktop.
MA Preflight now flags up greyscale bitmap images and illegal characters in keywords.
Added a function to extract MA codes from filenames and put them in a list to copy into MA.
The MA Relinker function would fail on files saved in an older version of InDesign, this has been fixed now.
The functions to add prefixes to image names now take account of DK MET logos, Top 10 logos and How To Use PDFs.

Editionizer

Streamlined the script so there are fewer dialogs, runs much faster and runs behind the scenes with a progress bar.
The tool will now report on missing images and missing layers (which would cause it to stop before) and the final reporting messaging has been made clear and simple.
Crashed if a link was in a locked box, this has been resolved now.
Could not relink images or save InDesign files on CC2020 running on MacOS Catalina. Will now work on all InDesign/MacOS version combinations.
Will no longer fail if a font isn’t available.

Resaver

The tool now runs roughly 4 times faster and runs behind the scenes with a progress bar.
Will now work on locations including folders with punctuation characters, including forward slashes.

SourceReport Exceptions

Can now also be used to make exceptions in SourceReport Illustrator files.
The tool has been optimized to make it faster with a more straightforward workflow and menus.
The report would sometimes appear blank if any “unusual” characters were used in the comments or file paths. The tool can now handle any characters.
Has error handling and feedback if a user selects checks which cannot be excepted.
It will automatically detect if a SourceReport file is open in Safari and work on that file regardless of where the file is saved.

PRH settings/InDesign preferences

Has been fully updated to target the CC2020 version of the Adobe apps.
Has updated Acrobat preflight profiles.
Has been updated to handle macs without Illustrator/Photoshop installed.
Will now set the Smart Text Reflow feature in InDesign to be on by default.

FontChecker

Now contains a warning for W1G fonts which are complex, expensive and usually unnecessary.
The report now contains a link to the font usage page on dkhandbook.
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

ImageReport

Has an option to output Media Archive and Digital Licensing reports at the same time.
Images with an empty Copyright metadata field will now show “unknown” in the report instead of garbled coding.
Updated the list of restricted images for the Digital Licensing report.
The Digital Licensing report will not include DK MET logos, Top 10 logos or How To Use PDFs.

Fuse

Has been updated to comply with the latest Apple security standards.

Combo

If the user’s ruler settings were not millimetres the InDesign file would be the wrong size, it will now be correct regardless.

MakeReady

PDFs were placed at the wrong size and position if the user’s preferences were not DK standard. They will now be placed correctly regardless of the preferences.

eArt, eDapt and iBooker

These tools have all been removed as they were no longer in use due to workflow changes or new tools. If this is an issue for anyone please email fuse@uk.dk.com

Fuse 2.9.0 release notes (launched 25/08/2020)

SourceReport Illustrator

This is a brand new tool which has been created to analyse Illustrator files to ensure they comply with our standards for print, archiving, image rights and to support our co-edition workflows.

FileMaster

Has a new function to convert IDMLs back into InDesign files with an option to delete the IDMLs after resaving.
The functions to Replace illegal characters and Replace text in filenames will now work with both files and folders.
Has a new function to output a report detailing the number of files and overall size of a set of folders, primarily designed for use on the Shared drives folder in File Stream.
The functions to add prefixes to image names now take account of the brand new logo names.
Has a new function to perform a basic MA preflight on a batch of images and generate a report if any issues are found.
Some restricted functions have been opened up for William Collins’ personal mac and the colour room macs.
The UI text asked for Input folder rather than MA ID file when first run by advanced users, this is now fixed.

SourceReport

The Link ID check and Inspector have been updated with new DK logo names as the logos have all had to be technically tweaked. The latest logos can be downloaded here.
A new check has been added to check that the trim size of each spread is consistent throughout a book.
Linked Illustrator Layer Visibility and its Inspector would not catch issues due to an inconsistency in the Google File Stream setup. This has been fixed.
Linked Illustrator Links Embedded and its Inspector would fail incorrectly due to a similar issue. This has also been fixed.
Font Report would not include details on fonts used in Illustrator docs, again for a similar reason. This has been fixed too.
Has been updated with all the latest fonts in FEX.

SourceReport Inspectors

The Translation Objects Overprint Inspector wasn’t finding all issues, it should now find them all.

Resaver

Has been updated in preparation for our move to CC2020.

Optima BETA

Has a new option to optimise for Digital workflows. This will optimise images to 600ppi but will ensure the longest side of the image is at least 2048 pixels.

Exporter

Based on feedback from Sales we have made the watermark feature lighter and more transparent to make the text more legible.

FontChecker

Would not pick up issues with fonts used in Illustrator documents, again due to the issues with File Stream, this has been fixed now.
Has been updated with all the latest fonts in FEX.

PackageMe

Was not working on files via File Stream, this has been resolved now.

PrimeMover

The tool has been updated to suit the new Google Drive workflows we now have in place for WIP projects including resolving issues going from Drive to the OurFiles servers.
Also if a folder name is corrected by the script it would no longer be able to process the file in some circumstances, this has been resolved now.

ArchivePreview

Was not working with Google File Stream due to spaces in the top-level folder names, this has been fixed now.

ImageReport

A new Digital Licensing report has been completed. This can be used to quickly produce a spreadsheet with details of the assets which can be licensed from the book in question.
The new DK logos will be excluded from reports similar to the previous ones.
When a Media Archive report is produced a searchable line containing the IDs will be shown and copied to the pasteboard for quick and easy searching in MA.
The Media Archive report will also be named using the Work Reference and Book Title to save time renaming.

LayerMerge

The tool no longer stops if 2 document names don’t match exactly. Instead it will compare actual page numbers within documents and skip one document if they don’t match but process the others.
In addition the script has been streamlined to be smoother and faster and have better error handling and feedback in general.

SourceReport

Will now ignore hidden ‘Icon’ files from Google Drive which were causing fails for Files Are Permitted Type and No Unused Links.
NB: these will be deleted by PrimeMover so they don’t go into PA.

Exporter

FileMaster

Now has an option to merge multiple SourceReports into one file. This is to allow people to create SourceReports on smaller batches or individual files and merge them together to create an overall book SourceReport.
Also has an option to extract metadata from images to a CSV file to streamline the MA upload process.
The relinking options will now all work with links that have had illegal characters removed from their name.
Will now still add MA codes to images even if the file extension is not the same case.

Optima BETA

Now has an option to either optimise to 300ppi for minimum file size or 600ppi to allow some flexibility and support digital workflows.

PrimeMover

There was an issue for some users (especially those remote logged onto macs in 80 Strand) running the tool on the new cloud servers and via Google File Stream, this has now been resolved.
Will now remove hidden ‘Icon’ files from Google Drive so they are not uploaded to PA.

Editionizer, LayerMerge

Also had the same issue on cloud servers/File Stream as PrimeMover.

Labeller, Optima, ImageCounter, FontChanger

These tools all failed with an error saying they ‘could not get menu selections’ for some users. This issue has been resolved now.

DeploySettings

This has been updated so it will now work with CC 2018 and CC 2020 with no errors or issues.

MakeReady

There is a new option to switch hyphenation on or off. When German language is selected this option is hidden and hyphenation is always switched on.

PrimeMerge

Depending on the user’s settings the tool would sometimes put files in the wrong folder, but now it will always make sure the correct file goes in each folder.

FontChecker

Contains all the latest font updates from FEX.

SourceReport

Categories have been added for Text On CMYK Templates (mainly for EFE titles).
New categories have been added for non co-editionable titles with a new version of the Paragraph Style Rules check which only checks the weight of the rule.
New categories have been added to check Travel Sheetmaps and support the translation of them: Travel Sheetmaps Translation Backlist.
The Image Colour Profiles check has been removed as it is no longer needed due to our updated colour settings.
The Current DK Logo check has also been removed as we have the Link ID check which has been updated to recognise the new logo.
The Unrotated Spread check has also been removed as it is no longer needed either.
A new check has been added called No Pasted Graphics to make sure images are not copied from another app. These are low-res and can’t be tracked in terms of rights or usage so should never be used.

The Link ID check now allows CARTO_ as a prefix for maps.

Exporter

Now has options to add keylines and/or gutter guides to PDFs and JPEGs.
Will automatically add keylines to the front and back covers of jackets as required for B3.
Jacket JPEGs will now always output at 300ppi rather than defaulting to the user’s settings.
Will now ensure the Book Code/ISBN entered does not contain any illegal characters.
The option Keep Original Slug was removed from the UI as it was no longer needed.

SourceReport Inspectors

FontChecker

Open Source fonts now output a warning to test them as there have been issues with some of them recently.
PostScript fonts now output a stricter warning as Adobe are ending support for these fonts so they will become completely unusable at some point.
Fonts from the old Membership By Monotype folder will now generate a note advising to use an equivalent from the new Mosaic folder instead.
Contains all the latest font updates from FEX.

ImageCounter

Shows counts both with and without duplicates included.
Shows an overall count of all the images.
Should now run faster, especially on files with lots of images.
Now saves the report file to the Desktop and opens it in TextEdit.
Does not modify or close the document when run on an open document.

WordCount

The UI defaults are now set to the most common settings for DK books to make the tool easier to use and ensure word counts are as accurate as possible.

MakeReady

The tool will now always add PDFs with a bleed which the user can manually display if desired.

ComboHarvester

The tool was sometimes resizing images using mm instead of pixels, this has been fixed now.

ImageReport

Will no longer include logos, barcodes etc. in any reports.
Will now no longer crash when it encounters an image starting with an underscore.
Will also not crash if an image is missing the copyright metadata field.

FileMaster

This a new tool currently located in the Beta testing menu. It was introduced to support the new image ID check and currently features the options Add Licensing prefix, Add Agency prefix and Remove illegal characters, with the plan being to add more options in the future. SourceReport Inspectors

A new Inspector has been added for the new Image ID check.
The Current DK Logo Inspector will now pass the Travel white logo.
The Black Stroke Weights Inspector no longer has a dialog at the start and will not incorrectly flag up strokes using the Paper swatch.
The Colour Stroke Weights Inspector no longer has a dialog at the start, will not incorrectly flag up strokes using the Paper swatch and will find and zoom in on all legitimate issues.
The Translation Images Black Inspector works with all translation layer names and will find and feedback on all legitimate issues.

FontChecker

This tool has now been moved out of Beta tools into the main menu. It should be used to check font licenses as early as Presentation stage and also at Template stage. This tool can also be used to find where a font with licencing issues has been used in InDesign and Illustrator documents.
We have also made some changes to improve speed and accuracy.
The font list has been updated to include the latest fonts in FEX.
Mismatches in font metadata will no longer cause fonts to fail incorrectly.
The report messages have been updated to make them clearer.
If you untick Show progress bar updates the progress bar should not come to the front at all, allowing you to work while the tool is running.

Combo

We have added an option to automate the production of PDFs for Print-On-Demand titles for the Garrick Street Press imprint.
We have added an option to automate the production of digital plotters to support the Corrections PEP.
We have also made sure the script doesn’t split spreads to support the same PEP.
The script will now detect if the PDFs don’t start on page 1 and adjust accordingly (mainly to support board books).
The script has been streamlined to make it run faster and with less switching between applications.
The checks for empty input folders now both work (the UK one didn’t before) and the feedback is more specific, saying which folder is empty.

SourceReport

The report file will now open much quicker in Safari, we have added new checks and fixed some bugs. For full details see the SourceReport release notes.

PrimeMerge

Some users were experiencing an issue where the links were updating incorrectly, this has been resolved now.
The tool will now move all images into a Links folder as per the standard DK folder setup and handles missing links better.
The tool now shows a dialog box to make it obvious that it has finished successfully.

PrimeMover

This tool will now run in the background allowing the user to continue to work while it is running (although not in InDesign).
It will now delete Instructions.txt files so they are not imported into PA as a document link and don’t need to be manually deleted.

PrimeFix

All fixes should now be much faster and the tool will run in the background.
We have added a No XML Structure fix to remove all XML elements and tags from a batch of InDesign documents.
The Text Wrap On Translation Layer fix now works with all standard DK layer names and can handle grouped items and text frames with a wrap.

DeploySettings

A new PDF preset has been added for POD Jackets.
Sets the display settings to Typical (to help with mac crashes).
Resolved an issue causing an error to show in Photoshop for some users.
Removed support for Adobe Bridge CS6 as it is no longer supported.

TextOut

The tool will now output text on paths.
Soft returns are removed so all paragraphs will run on.
The message for empty pages now always shows the correct page number.
The tool no longer crashes when it encounters a completely empty document.
The message saying the tool has finished now comes to the front so it is obvious when it is complete.

SourceReport Inspectors

The Translation Objects Black Inspector now finds issues on master pages and issues with gradient swatches.
For the following Inspectors we have fixed an issue so they always zoom no matter how small the item is on the page, improved the panel so it will switch to the close button as soon as the last item is selected so you don’t need an extra click and the selected item will remain in focus so you can work directly on it without needing to click it: No Empty Text Frames, No CMYK Objects Overprint, No Para Style Overrides Ignoring Tracking And Alignment, No Text On CMYK Layer, No Registration On Page, No Pasteboard Items, Translation Objects Black

MakeReady

CMYK PDFs were both placed on the left-hand page for documents with Page Origin set to Page rather than Spread. This has been fixed now.
The UI now has a tickbox to allow you to quickly and easily run the CMYK PDF option only.
The German language option no longer automatically makes changes to word spacing.

PrimeBacklist

This tool has been removed as its functionality is now available in PrimeMerge.

SourceReport Exceptions

Paragraph Style rules on translation layer and Paragraph Style rules on colour layer had incorrect names in the menu and so couldn’t be excepted, this has been fixed now.
No XML Structure has been added to the checks that cannot be excepted.

Co-Ed Guide

Some Co-Eds were getting confused by the SourceReport logo on Co-Ed Guides so we have removed it.

This tool now has options to add a keyline page border or a gutter guide. Or both! Note that this will only add them in for printing and they will not be saved in the documents. There are currently 2 options for gutter guide – Thick (4mm, 20% Black) and Thin (0.5pt, 50% Black). If anyone would like anything different please email fuse@uk.dk.com with details.
You can now cancel the tool when you get to the pop-up asking you to choose a print preset.

SourceReport

Any .bmp images will now fail the Files Are Permitted Type check. This format should never be used.
All Fonts Active and Exact Font Locations checks have been added to the Translation Backlist and Jackets Backlist categories.
The DK File Pagination check will now return correct results for documents containing novelty items and documents numbered with roman numerals.
The No XML Structure check has been added to all Frontlist categories.
The Font Report now lists fonts alphabetically, making it easier to compare reports.

FontChecker

The list of fonts has been completely checked and updated to ensure the full list of fonts available in FEX is reflected in the tool checks.
The report messaging has been tweaked to be clearer about the font licensing feedback.

JacketGenie

After feedback from printers the Flexi options have been updated to 6mm height and width additions and 3mm flap turnovers.
We have fixed a bug that caused InDesign to crash if the spine width was entered without a space between the number and mm. The tool will now correctly create a jacket regardless of spacing.

NewBook

This tool will now download the latest Outsourcer’s Brief and Delhi Brief documents. They both contain updates on Picture Research naming convention.

Editionizer

This tool will now make sure the CMYK layer is locked, the text layer is unlocked and both layers are visible.
If a link is used multiple times the tool will no longer prompt to ask what to do and will run smoothly without the need for user intervention.

PrimeMover

This tool has been overhauled so it is faster and much more reliable. This has enabled us to fix the following issues:

The error handling and reporting has been improved so the tool should not crash as often and if anything is wrong with the files the report should be more accurate.
The tool will process one file at a time so if anything does go wrong the files will not be left in a mess and empty folders will not be left in random places.
If an InDesign document has a different name from its folder the tool used to crash, now it will automatically correct the naming mismatch.
Empty folders will not be left in Assets/Images if there are no links (so the user does not need to manually delete them after).
The tool will now open the Layouts folder with the InDesign files rather than the Images folder.

CoEdGuide

This tool can now handle accented letters and other “unusual characters” in the input SourceReport and Excel files and will correctly show these characters in the final report document.
Also when you choose to export to PDF the default filename will not contain spaces or other illegal characters.
And you can now do File > Export as PDF directly instead of having to go through File > Print and then Save as PDF.

SourceReport Inspectors

The No Pasteboard Items Inspector has been updated and will now find all issues regardless of ruler settings and stray points on the pasteboard.
The Linked Illustrator Bounding Box Inspector has also been updated and should now find all issues, including where a link has 2 bounding boxes.

ArchivePreview

The Process Cover PDF option now works correctly.
The tool now ensures the keyline box always has fill set to None (occasionally it would come in with another fill colour).
The tool now always ensures the documents are created using Facing Pages (if the default document format had this unticked the tool would not work correctly).

PrimeFix

A bug that sometimes caused links to swap around when running Links Inside Spread Folder or No Missing Links has been fixed.

LayerFix

A debug line mistakenly left in for the layer rename code which meant the user needed to click OK for each document has been removed.

LayerMerge

An issue that prevented layers from being copied properly has now been fixed.

TextOut

This tool will now also export text inside tables, which it hasn’t done up to now.

Exporter

Error messaging has been made clearer and quicker when the first document is missing a chosen layer or has the wrong layer name.

ImageList (Beta)

This tool has been removed from Fuse as it has been superseded by ImageReport and is no longer required.

StyleCouncil (Beta)

This tool has been removed from Fuse as the functionality in it was no longer required.

SourceReportPro

This tool has been removed but the functionality has been incorporated into SourceReport. In any new reports you create you will see a tick box in the top left corner in the section below the SourceReport logo. If you tick the box the report will filter to only show fails. If you untick it you will see the whole report.

LayerFix

Options have been added to rename layers. One will rename a specific layer throughout a whole book (eg. UK -> US) and the other will make layer names consistent if you have a mixture of 2 different layer names (eg. UK & SPA).
If files had layers in a different order or a layer was missing then the tool would crash, this has been fixed now. If any layers are missing it will be reported at the end.
The tool has been streamlined and should run faster now.

Optima BETA

If an image is placed multiple times at different sizes it would be optimised too many times and the resolution would become too low. This has been fixed so all images should be optimised to the correct resolution.
If an image was optimised multiple times across a book the tool would trigger Finder messages asking you to replace an existing file, that will no longer happen.
If an image was named .jpeg or .tiff the tool would crash (as Photoshop automatically saves as .jpg and .tif). This has been fixed now.
Some image formats were saving the original file as well as a copy, this has been fixed so the original will be left as is in case it needs to be archived.
The UI has been updated to be clearer and easier to use and the final messaging has been made clearer.

PackageMe

This tool has been streamlined to run behind the scenes so it will run faster and won’t flick back and forth between InDesign and Finder as it did before.
The tool will update any modified links while it packages the files.
The reporting has been improved so any broken links are reported at the top of the report and this is also flagged in the tool complete message.

NewBook

The Delhi Brief & Outsourcer’s Brief documents have both been updated to include Picture Research Guidelines.

JacketGenie

Added PLC with platform option.
When the tool finishes it will bring InDesign to the front and show the completed template.

SourceReport Inspectors

An Inspector has been added for No Paragraph Style Overrides Ignoring Tracked Text And Alignment.
The No Text On CMYK Layer Inspector can now find issues in groups, works even if there is overset text in the document and will not incorrectly highlight text frames with empty tables.
The No Registration On Page Inspector occasionally crashed InDesign with some grouped items. This issue has been fixed now.

Exporter

An issue with transparency, spot colours and the Position Guide preset is now dealt with in the tool so PG PDFs can be created with no problems.
If the tool is run on an open InDesign document it will revert the metadata added for the PDF so the document returns to its original state.

FontChecker

Will now flag up when system fonts have been used.
Has been updated with the latest fonts available in FEX.

SourceReport

The Translation Images Black check will now allow the box holding the image to be black or a black tint (previously it had to be None).
Has been updated with the latest fonts available in FEX.

ImageReport

The tool will now filter to only show MA images in the report, map old archiving codes to their MA equivalent, ask user for Project title, Work reference and Department (which are required fields for the MA import) and automatically add other required fields.
It now runs in the background so is much quicker.
The size calculation for images that start off the page was incorrect, this has been fixed now so all images should list the correct size.
The final report will now be saved correctly so users don’t need to save it themselves.

Unite

This tool has been removed from Fuse. The functionality is now available in MakeReady.

MakeReady

This tool now includes an option to add a set of CMYK PDFs in as a background layer (to enable translators to work over a hi-res version of the images).

Fuse

The package has been reduced in size by about a third which will make installation and upgrades quicker.

Fuse 2.3.2 release notes (launched 25/06/2018)

Set up with PRH settings

This function has been updated for CC2018 and also runs faster and with improved messaging. When CC2018 is installed on your machine this option will be run automatically ensuring all the Adobe applications have the correct preferences, presets and colour settings.

We have also added a new PDF preset called DK_Greyscale_Page_Image which can be used to create greyscale PDFs for Education answer sheets.

And we have added a new PDF preflight for Black only Gradients (in DK Specialist use). This preflight is only to be run manually on files that fail the “black only inside bleed edge” check in the CMYK from InDesign preflights.

Resaver

This tool has been updated so it can be used to convert files created in any previous version of InDesign to CC2018 files. And it will still give you the option to set the required colour setting for your project.

MakeReady

This tool now has options for the user to choose the kerning method and ligatures settings for all text and styles.
The tool will also now let you specify any language option so it is possible to easily change a document’s settings from German back to English or from UK English to US English or vice versa.

PrintMe

This tool can now be run on folders containing spaces in the name.
It also now runs in the background, is much quicker and has improved error handling and feedback messages.
A bug that sometimes caused the tool to set InDesign to Fast Display performance (greying out images) has been fixed

PrimeFix

The Image Colour Profiles fix has been removed. This fix is no longer needed due to changes in our colour workflow and could actually introduce problems in some cases.
The No Unused Swatches fix could remove some swatches that were needed for gradients, this issue has been resolved now.

SourceReport

Translation Objects Overprint, Translation Objects Black and No Registration On Page checks now all check stroke gaps for issues.
The Linked Illustrator Links Embedded check sometimes failed documents that should have passed. We believe we have resolved this issue. If anyone encounters any problems with this check please let us know.
We have updated Font Report with new fonts that have been added to FEX since the last update.
There was a problem with the progress bar not showing after we moved to OS 10.12, this has now been resolved.

Exporter

The Position Guide preset will now work with spreads containing novelty pages.
The final feedback pop-up will now stay active for longer rather than timing out and returning an error.

SourceReport Inspectors

The No CMYK Objects Overprint Inspector had to be updated to work with CC2018. This has been done and this Inspector will work correctly.

We have added a new tool called Exporter, which is intended as a replacement for PDFMaker. For the moment we have left PDFMaker in as a backup option but please start using Exporter to create your PDFs.

Benefits of Exporter include:

The tool is faster and works in the background. This allows the user to run Exporter in InDesign and still use other programs.
Updated interface automatically uses correct settings for print presets and remembers settings from the previous run. See here for help and advice on the Exporter interface.
Supports multiple InDesign sections within one document, meaning PDFs for books with novelty items can be correctly output.
Will no longer delete section prefixes when run on active documents.
Supports extra layer options (die cuts, etc.), meaning special finishes and novelties can be correctly output.
Supports different page numbering styles (001, 002 etc) in InDesign documents.
Can output a specific page range from an active document.
PDF presets set up as spreads can be used with the Separate PDF tickbox.
Restores the original layer visibility settings when run on an active document.
More accurate in flagging up translation layer errors.

SourceReport

We have added a new check to flag up when Illustrator PDFs have been used instead of AI files. See here for details of this check.

FontChecker BETA

Another new tool which can be found in the Beta testing menu in Fuse.

This new tool highlights fonts that are not licensed for digital or freelance use and suggests alternative fully licensed fonts as replacements.

- BDGF now allows BDGF-a and BDGF-b (back double gatefold).
The All Fonts Active check no longer slows down when a font is missing.

Editionizer

The tool now has much better error handling. All error messages now contain a document name, making them easier to find and fix. If any documents are not processed due to an error this will be at the top of the report and the dialog at the end will also point this out.

SourceReport Inspectors

We have created a brand new Inspector for Linked Illustrator Links Embedded.
The No Empty Text Frames Inspector can now find and select locked items.

JacketGenie

The DK lockup logo has been updated to the latest version (see SourceReport section above).
The Template Notes layer has been removed as the fonts used were failing SourceReport. The layer was for the Fuse team only and isn’t needed any more.

SourceReport Switch

This tool has been removed as the functionality has been incorporated into SourceReport. Simply use the Business area dropdown in the UI to show the relevant options for your department.

SourceReport

An Adobe bug which caused incorrect fails in all of the Paragraph Style Override checks has been fixed in SourceReport. Unfortunately this means we cannot check for Character Style overrides. These should be rare, but we have logged a bug with Adobe and if they do fix it we will reinstate the Character Style overrides check.
No Registration On Page was failing for Registration items within the bleed and slug, this has been fixed so it will now only fail for Registration items that are on a document page.
Font Report has been updated to include the Open Source Fonts library.
We have added a new check No CMYK Objects Overprint to the Template categories. It checks that objects on the CMYK layer are not set to overprint. We have also added an Inspector to go along with the new check.
No Section Prefix and Single Section now allow SP- (spacers) and TO- (tracing overlay) novelty prefixes (see table on https://www.dkhandbook.com/?p=5546).
Tracking Less Than 15 has been removed from the Travel categories by request.
The Alpha categories have been removed by request as Alpha use the standard DK categories now.
Text Is Styled and Translation Text Overprinting now no longer fail incorrectly on tables or anchored items.
Freelancers without Illustrator will no longer get a pop-up with an error message when they run SourceReport.

PackageMe

The tool will now ensure that the input and output folders are different (choosing the same folder would cause the files to be deleted).
The tool will no longer create Instructions.txt files in each package folder (these cause SourceReport fails and are not needed as the tool produces an overall report with any issues).

SourceReport Inspectors

We have created a brand new Inspector for No CMYK Objects Overprint.
The Inspector for InDesign Preferences will now flag up when Typographer’s Quotes is unticked (and also contains an advisory message telling users to check existing quotes in the document).
The Inspector for No empty text frames can now select locked items (unfortunately this will not work for users who have ticked the Prevent Selection of Locked Objects preference – we are still working on a solution for this).

SourceReport Exceptions

An exception has been added for the new SourceReport check No CMYK Objects Overprint.

SourceReport

All SourceReport checks will now work correctly with French, Italian and Spanish installations of InDesign.
SourceReport can now be run on a Mac that does not have Illustrator installed. This is to allow freelance Editors and Translators to run SR. Note that if they run Linked Illustrator Links Embedded it will fail as it needs Illustrator to run. Note: we are still investigating an issue for one user that may be related to this. If any users experience problems with this please contact fuse@uk.dk.com with details.
Font Report now includes fonts used in linked Illustrator documents and should now return the correct membership information for all fonts.
No Section Prefix and Single Section now allow standard DK novelty prefixes (see table on https://www.dkhandbook.com/?p=5546).
We have added a new check Linked Illustrator Layer Visibility which checks that layered Illustrator documents (mostly maps) have been placed correctly on their relevant layers in InDesign. We have also added an Inspector to go along with the new check.
We have added a new check No XML Structure which checks if any XML structure has been left in the document. XML tagging can interfere with style sheet setup, increase the file size and make it slower to work with. It can also cause pagination issues.
InDesign Preferences now also checks that Typographer’s Quotes is ticked.
No Empty Text Frames will also allow blank running header text frames on master pages for Travel titles only as this is standard practice in templates.
No Pasteboard Items has been updated so it can cope with documents containing pages of different sizes (eg. novelty items) and with rotated items.
Paragraph Style Hyphen will check that hyphenation is switched on for DK-V titles only.
Paragraph Style Language will check that the language is set to German for DK-V titles only.
Text Wrap On Translation Layer has been re-written so it no longer uses the Find/Change which sometimes caused inconsistencies. The check will also now pick up text wraps that have been applied to a group.
Only Travel Symbol Fonts On CMYK Layer will allow items in the slug as these are common in Travel documents.
A clash between No Paragraph Style Overrides Ignoring Tracked Text And Alignment and No Overset Text has been resolved so both checks should now always return the correct results.
We have also made some other changes. For a full list see SourceReport release notes.

WordCount

The tool now contains an option to count words on master pages so you can choose to exclude these words from the count if you wish.

PRH settings/InDesign preferences

We will no longer set the Prevent Selection of Locked Items preference as some teams need it set differently. From now on everyone will have full control over this preference.

CoEd Guide

You should now be able to email CoEd Guides without any issue (previously they would sometimes appear blank after being sent via email). Note: this only applies to documents created from now on, older documents may still have this issue.

PrimeFix

The No Photoshop EPS fix is now working again.

Editionizer

If the tool is run over files with an existing language prefix it will now replace that with the new language prefix entered by the user. Previously it added the new one on leading to two language prefixes on the documents.

PrimeMover

The tool will now lock the CMYK layer if it’s not locked already and make sure the CMYK layer and text layer are both visible. All other layers will be left as they are.

Boxer

After running the tool the bounding box layer will be locked.

SourceReport

Document, link and folder name length checks have been increased by 20 characters and now allow for language prefixes being added to translated titles.
All checks dealing with filenames (Link format matches name, Files are permitted type, No unused links) no longer fail on uppercase file extensions.
You can now select a business area and the list of available checks will be shortened to only those relevant to your business area.
When run on an open document the report will automatically get the same name as the document.
Clicking the check name link at the top of the column in the report now takes you directly to the check explanation on dkhandbook, rather than just to the top of the page.
We have fixed user reported issues with DK file pagination, No pasteboard items, Image colour modes and Link format matches name. For specific details on these issues see SourceReport release notes.
The InDesign preferences check has been has been modified: Grids in Back is now only checked at Template stage.
Paragraph Style based on, Paragraph Style rules, Styles set to none, Text is styled, Translation tables black and Translation tables overprinting will now all work correctly on a German installation of InDesign.
USX has been added to the list of translation layer names and document language prefixes. This was a request for US export titles.
English for Everyone Uncoated has been renamed Text on CMYK Frontlist Uncoated, English for Everyone Translation Uncoated has been renamed Text on CMYK Translation Uncoated and we have added Text on CMYK Frontlist Coated and Text on CMYK Translation Coated.
Some checks were removed from Penguin Children’s Final Archive and Penguin Colour Co-Editionable by request.

SourceReport Inspectors

We have created a brand new Inspector for InDesign preferences.
We have updated the No empty text frames Inspector so it should now find all empty text frames flagged up by the corresponding SourceReport check. This now includes anchored items, items in groups and items on master pages.

CoEd Guide

Has been updated to let users copy in word counts from emails or B3.

WordCount

The tool no longer includes auto page number symbols in the counts.

Boxer

The bounding box settings and layer name have been updated to match the new bounding box templates. It will now create a solid Black line for the bounding box and allow more space between the image and the box. The container will need to be shrunk to ensure the bounding box line doesn’t print. If you have any questions about this please speak to someone in CTS.

PRH settings/InDesign preferences

We have included a setting to ensure the Page Numbering preference is always set to Section Numbering rather than Absolute Numbering. This was in response to an InDesign bug which sometimes causes it to revert to Absolute Numbering after a crash, which causes the page numbers in documents to be overridden.

We are also now setting default Text Frame and Graphic Frame styles to help with the Styles set to none check in SourceReport and ensuring CC Libraries and Preflight are switched off to try to improve performance issues some users have been experiencing lately.

Fuse 2.1.0 release notes (launched 24/02/2017)

SourceReport

The new SourceReport runs much faster than the old one.
You can choose to run SourceReport in the background so you can continue to do other work while it is running (apart from using InDesign or Illustrator). If you choose this use Command + Tab to scroll to InDesign in order to view the progress bar.
If you prefer, you can choose to always see a progress bar showing live progress, although this will interrupt your other work.
The progress bar is more accurate and detailed than the old SourceReport one.
The User Interface has significantly changed and we hope it is intuitive and easy to use. It will remember your settings from your previous run, making it easier and quicker to use in general.
You can now use Combo after running SourceReport, previously you had to restart InDesign before you could use Combo.
Many checks have been improved and catch errors that are not caught in the old SourceReport. For a full list of improvements and changes see SourceReport release notes.

WordCount

The Beta version of the WordCount tool has now replaced the one in the main menu. The tool now lets users choose if they want to count words in linked Illustrator documents or not, and it also shows a more detailed breakdown of the count (Text Layer, CMYK Layer, Illustrator, Overall). For more information on word counts in general, please click here.

The WordCount in SourceReport should no longer be used but remains in Fuse as a back up option. This may be removed in a later Fuse release.

JacketGenie

JacketGenie has been moved from the beta menu to the main menu. It also now assigns the correct FOGRA39 Coated colour profile to the templates it creates.

This tool creates a cover file template, to DK’s standard specification, from the sizes you supply. Spine widths are easier to update as alternate layouts are used, and the document allows you to export front cover and spine only jpegs for B3.

Package Me

The tool will now update links when it packages the files. Also it gives more accurate reporting on missing links and will only open the report if any of the documents have issues.

Appetizer

Has been updated to output at sizes appropriate to current device range being targeted by developers. Dimensions file now also gives percentages to allow more flexibility.

CoEd Guide

Has been updated to take a word count from the standard Excel document rather than directly from SourceReport, thus allowing more accurate counts from B3. Can also now accept an optional US WordCount.

ComboHarvester

An issue with stitching lines showing through in some documents has been fixed.

Optima BETA

This tool now creates copies of the original images before creating the optimised versions, and then relinks to these. If you use this tool, don’t forget to make further image adjustments to the unoptimised images and archive these with the book.

An error that prevented the tool being run on an open document has also been fixed.

PrimeFix

An issue with the Folder Name Fix has been corrected so it should now work in all situations.

SourceReport Exceptions

Has been updated to stay in line with the new SourceReport (but will also work on old SourceReport documents).

SourceReport Inspectors

Some Inspectors (Black Stroke Weight, Colour Stroke Weight, No Stray Points, Translation Objects Black, Translation Objects Overprint) did not select the object when the user clicked Stop checking. This has been fixed now.

Issue fixed which caused tool to fail on documents with lots of objects.

This tool has been retired. Subject to demand we can add an option into the new SourceReport to filter checks by business area in a later release.

Fixed issue so WordCount only counts words in each Illustrator link once, even if the link is used multiple times during the book.

SourceReport BETA

Ongoing development fixes:

Only CMYK Swatches – now fails if a swatch is not set up as process as in current SR.
No Empty Text Frames – now finds empty text frames in a group and doesn’t fail on documents with no frames, text frames with just a table or text frames with anchored objects.
Translation Object Blend Mode – now finds problems with objects in groups and anchored objects.
Image Resolution checks – all of these checks were passing or failing based on the first object only. This has now been fixed so they now check all objects.
Styles Set To None – this was failing based on some settings it shouldn’t have been checking, this has been fixed now.
Standard Page Numbers – this was only checking the first section of a document, this has been fixed so it now checks all sections.
Folder Name Length – this had been left at the old length but has now been changed to match the new file name length.
No CMYK Object Transparencies – was passing or failing based on the first object only but will now check all objects.
Special Sales Translation category was added.
Current DK Logo – was assuming each document only containing one logo file, can now cope with documents with multiple logos.
WordCount – now counts words on text layer only, counts numerals and does not count duplicate Illustrator files. All to match current SR.
No Pasteboard Items – was flagging items that were off the page but inside the bleed/slug, but does not fail on these any more.

The Fuse tool itself has had some improvements made to it:

A search bar has been added which allows you to quickly search for and run any tool.
The updater has been improved to make it quicker and more stable.
The code has been updated behind-the-scenes to provide more stability in general, to allow us to make improvements more easily and add more features in later updates.

SourceReport BETA

This is a new tool which has been added to the Beta testing menu. This is a major re-write of the SourceReport tool containing several improvements over the current tool.

Important: This tool is still a BETA version only and should not be used as a live production tool (although the tool is very fast to run so we would encourage people to try it out as much as possible).

The following improvements and updates have been made to the tool:

The tool is significantly faster than the current version of SourceReport.
The tool runs in the background so you can continue to use your Mac while it is running (although you should not use InDesign or Illustrator until it has finished).
If you click on the InDesign icon you will see a SourceReport progress indicator which has been improved to provide a more detailed and accurate progress report.
Font Report has been improved to provide more up-to-date feedback on fonts and now shows the FEX folder each font comes from for more accurate font licence checking.
The user interface has been overhauled. We would be very happy to receive feedback on the new interface, particularly on the functionality to select individual checks.
The check DK File Naming has been renamed to DK file pagination.
Document and link names are now checked for a maximum length of 50 characters, including the file extension. This was a change requested by the Archive team.
The following checks have all been improved and will catch more errors in the new tool: Colour stroke weights minimum, Only one InDesign document, No unused links in spread/links folder, Styles set to none, Text is styled, Text wrap on translation layer, Translation images overprint, Translation objects black, Translation objects overprint, Translation text is black, Translation text overprinting

WordCount

The BETA version of this tool has been moved into the main tools menu and a new BETA version has been added. The new BETA version now has options to count words on all layers or text layer only, will count words in linked Illustrator documents and should give a more accurate count based on feedback of what should be counted.

File location issue

ArchivePreview, FlatPlan, FontChanger, ImageCounter, ImageList and MakeReady all had an issue that prevented them from running on files in certain locations. This issue has been resolved.

ArchivePreview

In some situations the tool was creating documents at the incorrect size. Also, the tool had issues if a PDF was open in Acrobat when it was run. Both of these issues have been resolved.

BoxerPro

Fixed an issue causing the script to crash while attempting to clean up layers in Illustrator documents.

Combo

Fixed an issue causing the script to crash when run on titles containing more than 100 pages.

ComboHarvester

Fixed an issue causing the script to create a black border around some PDFs.

ComboNation

The BETA version of this tool has now replaced the main tool. The BETA version lets you run the tool over a folder of documents and can handle a much wider range of text layer names.

DogTag

This tool has been removed from Fuse. Please use PrimeFix with the option Link Names Characters Fix.

GangUp

Fixed an issue which caused the script to crash when running on multiple documents on OS 10.10 and above.

JacketGenie

The user interface has been improved and has had some bugs fixed. The jacket layout has also been simplified and the sizing and placement of DK logos have been improved.

MakeReady

This tool has been moved from the Beta testing menu into the main tools menu.

NameTag

This tool has been removed from Fuse. Please use PrimeFix with the option Document Name Characters Fix.

NewBook

The password has been removed from this tool and some new folders added to the folder structure by request.

PrimeFix

A fix has been added for Uncoated FOGRA 47.

OnlyImages

Documents with images on a master page caused the tool to crash, this issue has been fixed now.

This tool has been updated so it will work with the current SourceReport and the new SourceReport BETA. Also some missing checks have been added by request.
