Overprint and Knockout
The graphic below demonstrates the difference between overprint and knockout, using a black 70% tint box over a 4 colour design.
This is the same graphic, unchanged, but without black ink visibility turned off in InDesign using separations preview.
Overprint in InDesign
Overprint can be chosen by going to menubar WINDOW > ATTRIBUTES and checking the Overprint FILL and/or Stroke buttons.
‘Overprint Fill’ for text
‘Overprint Stroke’ for lines
or sometimes both
Bitmap and greyscale images can also be set to overprint in InDesign
