SourceReport 1.9.2 release notes (launched 22/04/2024)

The Link ID checks will now check for updated DK MET and Spanish FSC logos.

SourceReport 1.9.1 release notes (launched 17/10/2023)

The Files are Permitted type check was failing most documents due to a Drive cache change, this has been resolved.
The Minimum ink weight check was failing documents with raster images, this has also been resolved.

SourceReport 1.9.0 release notes (launched 25/09/2023)

Font Report has been updated to allow closer tracking of Monotype updates meaning font information should be more up-to-date and reporting more accurate.
Feedback on fonts has also become more detailed. Font Foundry has been renamed as Font Origin and now gives specific feedback if a font is missing and therefore can’t be checked, if it clashes with another font (this can be very problematic), if it’s an Adobe application font, Adobe cloud font or Apple system font (all of which are not licensed for use).
Reports will now open using Google Chrome instead of Safari. This should make for a smoother and faster experience.
Will pass Link ID and Document ID checks for Phonic Book custom images.
All text layer checks have been updated to include new layer name LATAM.
Checks have been updated to comply with Apple file management and Google Drive cache changes.
Paragraph style language and Character style language checks have been added to all Frontlist categories. This is due to issues experienced with quotation marks when no language is set.
Fixed an issue with No Unused Links not finding issues on projects accessed via shortcuts in Google Drive.
Font checks have been added to all Backlist and Translation categories.
A new check and corresponding Inspector have been added for Minimum Ink Weight. This is for Uncoated titles only.
The tool will work correctly on legacy InDesign documents again.
The UI will display an advisory note if it is waiting for InDesign to start up as this can cause the script to seem stalled. If you see this please click the InDesign app in your dock until it becomes active.
The Run on active document option will only be available when a document is open in InDesign to avoid incorrect use leading to errors.
A new Phonic Books translation category has been added.
No section prefix and Single section checks have been removed from Phonic Books categories.
Link ID and Trim size consistent checks have been added to Phonic Books categories.
No text on CMYK layer was not finding text paths on text frames. Both check and Inspector will find them now.
New EFE 3 Layer categories have been added.

SourceReport 1.8.0 release notes (launched 28/11/2022)

The Exact font location check will now pass for people using the Monotype Desktop App (including outsourcers).
A new category has been added for Phonic Books.
The Link ID check will pass for Learning, Phonic and Super Reader logos and QR codes.
Will now correctly categorise all DK Copyright fonts in the Font Report.
The DK file pagination check has been updated to keep in line with all valid language prefixes.
The tool will no longer fail when invalid characters are entered in the report name field in the UI.
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

SourceReport 1.7.0 release notes (launched 15/06/2022)

The Run WordCount option has been removed. The WordCount tool is more up-to-date and should be used instead.
The Link ID check will now pass the new 2020 FSC logos and fail the old ones.
The Translation objects blend mode check will now fail when an object does not have a blend mode applied but does have the Isolate Blending option ticked as this will cause an issue on print and cannot be picked up by the preflight.
The Translation text is black check will now pass if the stroke is not black but is set to 0pt (and so is not visible).
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

SourceReport 1.6.0 release notes (launched 11/02/2021)

The Linked Illustrator links embedded check has been removed. This means the tool no longer requires Illustrator and will be quicker and less disruptive to run.
The tool now has resaver functionality built in so it can be run on older InDesign documents and will resave them in the current version as it runs.
Checks to ensure Transparency Blend Space is always set to CMYK.
Error dialog will come to the front automatically instead of the user having to click on the app and no longer has confusing Cancel button.
The No excessive res bitmap images check was in the wrong order in the Non-CoEd Frontlist Uncoated category, this has been fixed now.
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

SourceReport 1.5.0 release notes (launched 11/02/2021)

The check for Bitmap images with excessive resolution has been added to the Frontlist categories as images of this type have been causing problems for printers and for archiving.
The Link ID check will now pass Top 10 logos, the new DK MET logos and How To Use PDFs with any language suffix.
Illustrator PDFs are now allowed only for barcodes as this is currently the only viable option from the MBC4 Barcode Creator tool.
The InDesign Preferences check will no longer check the Smart Text Reflow setting.
Has been updated with the latest fonts from FEX.

SourceReport 1.4.0 release notes (launched 25/08/2020)

The Link ID check and Inspector have been updated with new DK logo names as the logos have all had to be technically tweaked. The latest logos can be downloaded here.
A new check has been added to check that the trim size of each spread is consistent throughout a book.
Linked Illustrator Layer Visibility and its Inspector would not catch issues due to an inconsistency in the Google File Stream setup. This has been fixed.
Linked Illustrator Links Embedded and its Inspector would fail incorrectly due to a similar issue. This has also been fixed.
Font Report would not include details on fonts used in Illustrator docs, again for a similar reason. This has been fixed too.
Has been updated with all the latest fonts in FEX.

SourceReport 1.3.1 release notes (launched 28/05/2020)

Will now ignore hidden ‘Icon’ files from Google Drive which were causing fails for Files Are Permitted Type and No Unused Links.
NB: these will be deleted by PrimeMover so they don’t go into PA.

SourceReport 1.3.0 release notes (launched 05/03/2020)

Categories have been added for Text On CMYK Templates (mainly for EFE titles).
New categories have been added for non co-editionable titles with a new version of the Paragraph Style Rules check which only checks the weight of the rule.
New categories have been added to check Travel Sheetmaps and support the translation of them: Travel Sheetmaps Translation Backlist.
The Image Colour Profiles check has been removed as it is no longer needed due to our updated colour settings.
The Current DK Logo check has also been removed as we have the Link ID check which has been updated to recognise the new logo.
The Unrotated Spread check has also been removed as it is no longer needed either.
A new check has been added called No Pasted Graphics to make sure images are not copied from another app. These are low-res and can’t be tracked in terms of rights or usage so should never be used.
The Pro option in the UI has been removed, as there is a Pro tickbox in the report which you can use just to show the checks/documents which have fails.
The Link ID check now allows CARTO_ as a prefix for maps.

SourceReport 1.2.0 release notes (launched 04/09/2019)

Now has a new check to ensure that all link names contain an appropriate ID in order to be able to track, sell and reuse our visual assets.
The No Unused Links check has been removed from the DK Translation Backlist and Special Sales Translation categories.
A white logo used by Travel will now pass the Current DK Logo check.
The list of fonts used to generate the Font Report has been updated.

The report file will now open much quicker in Safari.
We have added a new check that will make sure the text layer is named consistently throughout a book.
The No Unused Links check has been added to DK Translation Backlist, DK Jacket Backlist, Special Sales and Special Sales Translation categories.
Exact Font Location has been removed from the Translation Backlist and Jacket Backlist categories.
The Paragraph Style Language check will now pass for US titles set to use English: USA.
The DK Pagination check now works correctly for all novelty titles.
If you untick Show progress bar updates the progress bar should not come to the front at all, allowing you to work while the tool is running.
No Registration On Page will now flag up Registration text on Jackets.

An InDesign bug caused the bleed checks to fail incorrectly sometimes, we have implemented a workaround for this.
If a font name has an ampersand the Font Report would appear completely blank, we have found a way to fix that issue.
Translation Text Is Black will now pick up Black swatches with tint set to 0% (effectively the same as Paper) and incorrect strokes set to weight 0pt (which will still output in the PDF).
Translation Images Black, Translation Objects Black and Translation Tables Black will also pick up Black swatches with tint set to 0%.
The font list has been updated to include the latest fonts in FEX.

SourceReport 1.0.9 release notes (launched 19/11/2018)

Any .bmp images will now fail the Files Are Permitted Type check. This format should never be used.
All Fonts Active and Exact Font Locations checks have been added to the Translation Backlist and Jackets Backlist categories.
The DK File Pagination check will now return correct results for documents containing novelty items and documents numbered with roman numerals.
The No XML Structure check has been added to all Frontlist categories.
The Font Report now lists fonts alphabetically, making it easier to compare reports.

The Translation Images Black check will now allow the box holding the image to be black or a black tint (previously it had to be None).

SourceReport 1.0.7 release notes (launched 05/07/2018)

After the CC2018 upgrade the InDesign Preferences check for templates was incorrectly failing all files. The check has been fixed and will return the correct results for all templates.

SourceReport 1.0.6 release notes (launched 25/06/2018)

Translation Objects Overprint, Translation Objects Black and No Registration On Page checks now all check stroke gaps for issues.
The Linked Illustrator Links Embedded check sometimes failed documents that should have passed. We believe we have resolved this issue. If anyone encounters any problems with this check please let us know.
We have updated Font Report with new fonts that have been added to FEX since the last update.
There was a problem with the progress bar not showing after we moved to OS 10.12, this has now been resolved.

SourceReport 1.0.5 release notes (launched 19/01/2018)

We have added a new check to flag up when Illustrator PDFs have been used instead of AI files. See here for details of this check.
FontReport will now run much faster and contains all the latest fonts in FEX.
The Rough Guide categories have been removed.
We have fixed a bug where the tool would try to run over zipped InDesign files (which caused the tool to crash)

As the DK lockup logos have been updated, the corresponding check has been updated so it checks for the new logo files. If you need the new files you can download them from https://www.dkhandbook.com/?p=2037
No Translation Tables Present now gives correct results for for documents with text paths.
All the swatch checks are now able to fully check gradient swatches.
Checks relating to novelty prefixes have been updated as follows:
- WF has been renamed as WLTF (wallet front).
- WB has been renamed as WLTB (wallet back).
- WLT has been added (wallets).
- POP has been added (pop-ups).
- BDGF now allows BDGF-a and BDGF-b (back double gatefold).
The All Fonts Active check no longer slows down when a font is missing.

SourceReport 1.0.3 release notes (launched 18/08/2017)

An Adobe bug which caused incorrect fails in all of the Paragraph Style Override checks has been fixed in SourceReport. Unfortunately this means we cannot check for Character Style overrides. These should be rare, but we have logged a bug with Adobe and if they do fix it we will reinstate the Character Style overrides check.
No Registration On Page was failing for Registration items within the bleed and slug, this has been fixed so it will now only fail for Registration items that are on a document page.
Font Report has been updated to include the Open Source Fonts library.
We have added a new check No CMYK Objects Overprint to the Template categories. It checks that objects on the CMYK layer are not set to overprint. We have also added an Inspector to go along with the new check.
No Section Prefix and Single Section now allow SP- (spacers) and TO- (tracing overlay) novelty prefixes (see table on https://www.dkhandbook.com/?p=5546).
Tracking Less Than 15 has been removed from the Travel categories by request.
The Alpha categories have been removed by request as Alpha use the standard DK categories now.
Text Is Styled and Translation Text Overprinting now no longer fail incorrectly on tables or anchored items.
Freelancers without Illustrator will no longer get a pop-up with an error message when they run SourceReport.

SourceReport 1.0.2 release notes (launched 09/06/2017)

All SourceReport checks will now work correctly with French, Italian and Spanish installations of InDesign.
SourceReport can now be run on a mac that does not have Illustrator installed. This is to allow freelance Editors and Translators to run SR. Note that if they run Linked Illustrator Links Embedded it will fail as it needs Illustrator to run. Note: we are still investigating an issue for one user that may be related to this. If any users experience problems with this please contact fuse@uk.dk.com with details.
Font Report now includes fonts used in linked Illustrator documents and should now return the correct membership information for all fonts.
You should now be able to email SourceReports (and Font Reports) without any issue (previously they would sometimes appear blank after being sent via email). Note: this only applies to documents created from now on, older documents may still have this issue.
No Section Prefix and Single Section now allow standard DK novelty prefixes (see table on https://www.dkhandbook.com/?p=5546).
We have added a new check Linked Illustrator Layer Visibility which checks that layered Illustrator documents (mostly maps) have been placed correctly on their relevant layers in InDesign. We have also added an Inspector to go along with the new check.
We have added a new check No XML Structure which checks if any XML structure has been left in the document. XML tagging can interfere with style sheet setup, increase the file size and make it slower to work with. It can also cause pagination issues.
All Fonts Active now gives a little more time for fonts to activate through FEX as some take longer than others.
InDesign Preferences now also checks that Typographer’s Quotes is ticked.
No Empty Text Frames will no longer fail on empty placeholder text frames connected to text frames containing the Next Page Number or Previous Page Number characters as this is necessary for these to function correctly.
No Empty Text Frames will also allow blank running header text frames on master pages for Travel titles only as this is standard practice in templates.
No Pasteboard Items has been updated so it can cope with documents containing pages of different sizes (eg. novelty items) and with rotated items.
Paragraph Style Hyphen will check that hyphenation is switched on for DK-V titles only.
Paragraph Style Language will check that the language is set to German for DK-V titles only.
No Paragraph Style Overrides will now also pick up character style overrides. NB: Due to an issue with the Adobe style highlighter we have had to take this change back out as it was causing many correct documents to fail this check. We have logged a bug with Adobe and we will reinstate this change only once the bug is resolved and we have confirmed it.
Text Wrap On Translation Layer has been re-written so it no longer uses the Find/Change which sometimes caused inconsistencies. The check will also now pick up text wraps that have been applied to a group.
No Translation Tables Present will now pick up tables in groups and anchored items.
DK File Pagination now flags up all documents which are missing an underscore after the page range (it missed some edge cases previously).
Only Travel Symbol Fonts On CMYK Layer will allow items in the slug as these are common in Travel documents.
A clash between No Paragraph Style Overrides Ignoring Tracked Text And Alignment and No Overset Text has been resolved so both checks should now always return the correct results.
No Overset Text now flags up tables with overset text.
An issue causing duplicate entries to appear in the Select Specific Checks list has been resolved.
If the tool is run on an open document the report will automatically get the name of the document so the option to enter a name for the report is disabled to avoid confusion.

SourceReport 1.0.1 release notes (launched 17/03/2017)

Document, link and folder name length checks have been increased by 20 characters and now allow for language prefixes being added to translated titles.
All checks dealing with filenames (Link format matches name, Files are permitted type, No unused links) no longer fail on uppercase file extensions.
You can now select a business area and the list of available checks will be shortened to only those relevant to your business area.
When run on an open document the report will automatically get the same name as the document.
Clicking the check name link at the top of the column in the report now takes you directly to the check explanation on dkhandbook, rather than just to the top of the page.
DK file pagination was incorrectly failing for all documents with numbering in the style 01, 02 or 001, 002 etc. This issue has been fixed now.
No pasteboard items was incorrectly failing for most documents with an odd number of pages, some documents with rotated items partially off the page and many documents with novelty items. These issues have all been fixed now.
Link format matches name was incorrectly passing for links with an extension in the wrong place (ie. not at the end of the filename). This issue has been fixed now.
Image colour modes now picks up issues with EPS files which have an embedded colour space.
The InDesign preferences check has been has been modified: Grids in Back is now only checked at Template stage.
Paragraph Style based on, Paragraph Style rules, Styles set to none, Text is styled, Translation tables black and Translation tables overprinting will now all work correctly on a German installation of InDesign.
USX has been added to the list of translation layer names and document language prefixes. This was a request for US export titles.
English for Everyone Uncoated has been renamed Text on CMYK Frontlist Uncoated, English for Everyone Translation Uncoated has been renamed Text on CMYK Translation Uncoated and we have added Text on CMYK Frontlist Coated and Text on CMYK Translation Coated.
Some checks were removed from Penguin Children’s Final Archive and Penguin Colour Co-Editionable by request.

SourceReport 1.0.0 release notes (launched 24/02/2017)

User experience improvements:

The new SourceReport runs much faster than the old one.
You can choose to run SourceReport in the background so you can continue to do other work while it is running (apart from using InDesign or Illustrator). If you choose this use Command + Tab to scroll to InDesign in order to view the progress bar.
If you prefer, you can choose to always see a progress bar showing live progress, although this will interrupt your other work.
The progress bar is more accurate and detailed than the old SourceReport one.
The User Interface has significantly changed and we hope it is intuitive and easy to use. It will remember your settings from your previous run, making it easier and quicker to use in general.
Many checks have been improved and catch errors that are not caught in the old SourceReport (see below for more details).
For people who use the Combo tool, you can now run it after running SourceReport, previously you had to restart InDesign before you could use Combo.
Sometimes SourceReport would crash while running a Font Report on a document with a large amount of text and/or a large number of fonts. This has been resolved now.

General changes to checks:

The acceptable length for a filename has been reduced to 50 characters. Document name length, Folder name length and Link name length have all been updated accordingly.
The maximum acceptable file size for a link has been increased from 500MB to 750MB. Link file size has been updated accordingly.
Uppercase extensions are no longer acceptable for any files. Files are permitted type and Link formats match names have been updated accordingly.
Image colour modes, Translation images black and all of the Resolution checks now work with US and German installations of InDesign.
InDesign Preferences now also checks that Grids In Back is off and Smart Text Reflow is off. For Templates it also checks that the Ruler Origin is set to Page.
Styles set to none now checks both Graphic Frame and Text Frame object styles, which reflects new settings in InDesign.
DK File Naming is now named DK file pagination.
No Berthold Fonts has been removed.
No Truetype Fonts has been removed.

Template is now named DK Template Coated.

Standard page numbers: Now picks up issues in documents with multiple sections.
Translation objects black: Now picks up objects on master pages, objects embedded in tables and objects in documents with overset text.
Translation objects blend mode: Now picks up objects on master pages and objects in groups.
Translation table overprinting: Now picks up overprint errors in table borders, cell borders, diagonal lines, border gaps (if they use a fill colour) and will check tables in groups, anchored items, and on master pages.
Translation tables black: Now picks up errors in gap colours and diagonal lines; will check tables in anchored items, groups and master pages and does not incorrectly fail if the colour is wrong but the border or fill is switched off by setting Type to None or Weight to 0pt.
Translation text is black: Now picks up text in anchored items, text on master pages, text in documents with overset text, works on open documents, does not incorrectly fail on some documents with tables and does not crash on documents with a table inside a table or a table running over multiple text frames.
Translation text overprinting: Now picks up text in documents with overset text and works in Frontlist categories (previously it did not work correctly due to a clash with the preceding check).
